A/C quandry

1988 245. Whenever I try and engage the A/C, everything in the console dies until I cycle the power. I get the same issue with the rear defroster. I've replaced both relays and also tested the clutch itself (though I've since realized that's kind of moot at this point in troubleshooting) as well as fussed around with the relevant grounds. I'm assuming it's a deeper wiring issue, but... what?

I'm a bit of a diagnostics novice, so any help would definitely be appreciated.

As a note, with the point in the year the defroster is not a priority, and I know that at least part of the problem there is the hinge grounds are both shot. Plan on fixing those later, but I need to deal with the roasty-toasty oven-car issue, now.

Went back and double checked to account for my poor memory. Added some freon and found the problem was the compressor itself. Sounded like a skeleton gargling marbles. So, basically, ignore this.
