So I probably did this to myself but here's the deal. My middle brake light has never worked so I just cut it off and twisted the wires together so the warning light wouldn't come on. Then maybe a day later I couldn't take it out of parking without using the over drive button. I know they are connected but I don't know what it means or what to do. If anyone has an idea I would really appreciate it.

I'd start by undoing the brake light mod you did. It SHOULD NOT be the cause for this, BUT the solenoid that releases the shifter is activated by the brake pedal so just may be in a weird way this caused it. It seems silly, but I have seen lots of Volvo electrical mysteries that defy logic. The OD button should not enable you to shift. If the brake fix doesn't fix the problem then it's the solenoid/linkage issue of the shifter release mechanism-no fun fixing that.
