Alright. i have an 88 244 DL. When i turn the key to the on position, my fuel pump doesnt come on. I need to replace my fuel pump relay. I can crank it and it runs rough, but it runs. Today, I was driving it and it seemed like it was skipping almost as if it was out of fuel. Then, when i put it into neutral, it shuts off. It did it about 5 more times. if i went to idle, it shuts off. Help please.

 

on 87/88's, the pump doesn't usually run when you first turn on the key like it does on the later versions. it depends on the ECU you have.

you can test your fuel pumps by jumpering the fuse panel like this guy shows... Volvo Relays and scroll down to "TESTING YOUR FUEL PUMP" ...

anyways, you A) haven't actually asked any question, and B) haven't given us nearly sufficient information to justify your forgone conclusion that its your fuel pump relay.

 

That FI relay is not a good suspect. You do need to give more info...

 

Uneven compression
Faulty spark plugs or wires...cap and rotor...check all of them
