Default Changed radiator and thermostat now car won't start!

We swapped out the leaky radiator, installed a new 92 degree thermostat, new fan clutch, all 4 belts (a/c, both alternator, power steering) and cleaned the K&N air filter on my 93 wagon. Everything went smooth and we were able to start up the car and drive it out onto the drive. We let it idle a while, tried to rev it to get the coolant to drop then shut it off. After that we couldn't get the car to start again. The only thing we could think of was that the filter might have been wet and it tainted the MAF sensor? Where did we go wrong?

How did you clean the K&N. Did you also re-oil it. Pull it back out and look at the MAF to see if it is wet inside.

K&N air filters are the devil. they don't filter as well as the OEM paper filter, and they are far more work to clean properly than replacing a $12 Mahle paper filter every (LOTS) of miles.

Ha! We did not re-oil it, I guess we'll pull the MAF and clean it and reinstall. I would have used a new air filter but they were out so I bought the kit. Womp, womp.

if you're shopping at some place like Autozone, don't expect to find proper Volvo parts there. I get my filters and such mail order from places like www.fcpeuro.com ... Mahle or Mann, mostly.

I destroyed 2 MAF sensors with K&N filters

I used to love them but I won’t touch them again.

As for the MAF, will it run at all with the MAF unplugged?

I have 366K miles on our 89 740. Installed a K&N at 75K miles. I wash/dry and oil the filter every year using the K&N cleaner kit. You just need to make sure you dry it after washing it out and you only need to mist with oil and not spray. They will last forever.

We have a 500,000 mile 1987 240, bought new. it gets a new Mann air filter for about $12 every 2-3 years.
