Cigarette lighter outlet not working!
Hi there! Newbie here, to this forum and to Volvos, and cars in general. I'm trying to fix up my 85 240 GL. I went to the junkyard and replaced the fan switch and it works fine now.
However, once I put everything back together correctly (I used scotch tape and sharpie to make sure the connections went back to the right connectors), the cigarette lighter stopped working. I don't smoke, but I rely heavily on my smartphone for GPS, so I need it working again.
Worthy of note is that a week ago before I even knew I had a fan switch problem the cigarette outlet was working fine with my dual USB adapter.
I checked with friend's USB adapter and nothing happened, and same with the actual cigarette lighter, which leads me to believe that the outlet isn't getting any power.
Would anyone care to help me out? What could it be?

I believe its on fuse 1. If you have a volt meter, set it to DC volts, put the black lead on a good chassis ground, and check both sides of fuse 1 with the red probe with the key on ACC(I) or RUN(II), they should both read 12V...
If your fuses are the funky silver ones, I'd highly recommend getting some proper copper/brass ceramic ones (sold in kits on ebay as 'mercedes w123/w124 fuses', for Mercedes 300D/300E cars from the same era, one of those kits is enough to do 2-3 240's) and replace ALL your fuses, cleaning the inside of the gold contacts with a soft pink pencil eraser as you go. ALL the 'ceramic' euro car fuses I've found in car parts stores have been the crummy aluminum/tin kind, they fail even though they look intact.
It is, of course, always possible you knocked the wire off the back of the cigar socket, as the last thing you worked on is nearly always what caused the new problem
