Clunk from rear end

Default Clunk from rear end

I have noticed the if I am sitting in the car at idle and I shift the auto trans into reverse, or I shift it from neutral to drive I hear a clunk noise which sounds like it is coming from the readend.

I have noticed recently that when taking off from a stop I get a clunk when shifting from first to second, but all other gears shift ok.

Could this be a bad rear-most u-joint?

If so should I replace all of the u-joint and center bearing and trans mount?

Can the average person perform this task.

Try replacing the tranny mount! It might be worn!

Check the mount it is easy to look at and see if it is sitting on the crossmember.
Try turning the drive shaft in park and see if you feel the play in the driveshaft.
