Default Code Reader

Just bought 89 240 dl sedan, 5 speed, (YEA!!!!!) with 185000 on it. The service light comes on for about 2 minutes and then goes off. Car runs fine and I get no codes.....Matter of fact I don't even get the 1-1-1 code. I hold the button and it lights up, I keep it pressed for a few and let off and the nothing. Any ideas????

Also when I chenge gears I hear a clunk when I press the cluth and another when I release it. I think it is either worn motor mounts or maybe U-0joints in the drive shaft.. Any ideas on that one???????

THANKS TO ALL

the car needs the keys in the on position for the code reader to work. also the service light is a light that comes on to remind you to change the oil. the check engine light will be for the code reader and that light will stay on and not go out.

supposdly, you can reach back behind the cluster and push a button. I leave it alone. mine always goes on for several moment and then shuts off.

as to the clunk. It sounds like ujoints. lift the back of the car and support it on stands. then take the drive shaft and see if there is an play. if you have more then 1/16" of play. its the ujoints. you'll need a press. harbor freight has a reasonable quality press for $20.00. it looks like a heavy duty c-clamp. it'll also press out ball joints, but i havn't done any of those yet.
