Default Compatible Rims for 80's 240.

Hey, I have been searching for quite some time for rims that will fit onto a 1989 volvo 240. IPD offers quite a few options, and are supposedly bolt on. I then find information saying that you need spacers and extended bolts for the rim. If somebody could put a few steps of how to get the rim to bolt onto my car without the confusion that would be great. You see so many photos of lowered volvo's with rims and they look so good.
I want to buy it all at once instead of trial and error.
I am looking for a 17,18 inch.

Unless you can find a set of the original Volvo Polaris rims your choices are slim in those sizes. IPD would have the best selection (1 style - Pegasus Replicas 17") They are direct bolt on however once you go to that large of a rim and tire, your suspension takes a toll. Before you buy make sure your springs are not sagging because tires will rub if they are and I would beef up the suspension and bushings...but yes they are bolt on no spacers necessary. I have a client that has them on his 89 244 and they look incredible! However, his rear springs were saggy and the tires rubbed on the wheel wells...

The 240 came stock with 14" and at the last, 15" rims. Still, all the rwd offset wheels from the 7 and 9 series will work w/o spacers. There were only two 16" rwd wheels, the Hydra (common and very inexpensive) and the Gemini (scarce and very pricey. If you are dead set on 17 or 18's, you are very limited without using fwd offset wheels. As mentioned, replica Pegs are made in rwd offset. I had a set of 17" VOXX MGR's but they are nla. 20 year old cars just really don't merit much after market interest. I will tell you this...every inch increase in wheel size carries advantages and disadvantages. Unless you put significant money into the suspension, stay w/ 15"s or 16" at the most. Decreased sidewall height w/ the 17" will have you feel every single line in the road. Worn struts and shocks, stock springs and non-existent bushings will make for a crappy ride. Too many people today have no inkling of how increased wheel size adversely affects suspension geometry.
Here's a link to some stock Volvo wheels...
