Default Cover Screen for rear of 240 Wagon

I am seen many cars with security cover screens for the back of their cars--I have seen these on Subaru Forester, for example.

It is one thing I'd like for my 240 wagon, to hide any items I may have stored there. Does anyone know of any other car cover screens that can be modified or made to fit in this area.

Like a tonneau cover that I have at the bottom of this picture?

That is exactly what I want. Any ideas what will fit?

An OEM one, look on eBay (will be ridiculously expensive) or checkout a junk yard. Going to be hard to locate one. I'm thinking you would have to get one custom fit, may cost as much as an original one on eBay.

I had one in my Cherokee, turned out to be more trouble than it was worth, ended up in a corner of the garage.

There is one in eBay for $200. I don't know what these go for brand new or custom made. Seems more trouble than it is worth, plus I would think covering something up would make thieves more interested.

the 20 yr old volvo ones I've seen (mostly on 740/940 wagons) have been in pretty bad shape, the retractor spring is weak, the 'bar' that you pull out and hook across the rear end is bent, the vinyl fabric is brittle.

I have a good black one for sale but it is for a 740/940, I doubt it will fit a 240.

Mine is not noticeably faded. One holder that is mounted on my 240 is broken though, and when you have the back seats up, it pinches the whole thing and will not retract without assist. Retracts fine when it is all by itself. More hassle than necessary, plus it is squeaky, and I HATE a squeaky ride.

I didn't know these came OEM! I looked on eBay and didn't see it. Can you post the item number?

You won't like old silver then, I have about a million squeaks to run down.

Great, found it. Wrong color though. I suppose I could paint it. The ad lists it for up to 1989...not sure why it would not fit on the 1992. Any idea why? Is there something different about the earlier cars?

It might have to do with the 90+ cars having the larger back glass that extends down further on the hatch.

Heck, for $200, I would sell you my black one. I'm thinking there is no difference between sizes. Plus the redesign for the flush windows front and rear happened in '92 so why didn't the listing go up to '91?
Mine is a '93 BTW.

Oh wait, sorry. The redesign happened in 1990, so the listing is correct, but should still work. Now I'm curious...

I'm thinking that paint on roll-up vinyl is not going to work very well.

I would not mind one, but I would not pay that price for it, and certainly not if it is the wrong color and needed to be stained. My windows are tinted pretty dark. I had two black dogs in there today and could not see anything but the white on Shadow's paw. I am probably going to put up some curtains to block a bit more light for when I can camp in the back, or need to park it somewhere with something in the back.
