Default Deep Cleaning Action

Hello fellow Volvo drivers,

How important is it really to clean out in interior of the engine? Whatare the most obvious indications for cleaning? Does the SeaFoam really work? When might I consider using it?

I've used seafoam several times along with Amsoil's Powerfoam. From my experience the Amsoil Powerfoam works the best but I know it's not easy to come by, that is if you don't know of anyone that sells it. The Seafoam can be bought at most any NAPA store so it's just easier to get. I think it's a good idea to do on occasion.I did the Volvo about 20K miles ago so I'm due again soon.

Seafoam, powerfoam, or whatever...though honestly I'll probably go for the Seafoam, seeing as how It's been advertised on the forum a few times, what's the going rate for the Amsoil?

I initially started thinking about these engine cleaners when I looked into the intake manifold and it was a bronze color, that's the contrast for thought.

who cares what color it is. I wouldn't want any of that gunk to be moved into the bearings or oil passage ways. It's not doing anything sitting on the walls of the engine. If anything it probably makes the air in the intake manifold flow faster than rough aluminum casting. I have flushed engines before, but most experienced master level mechanics don't use snake oils. And yes that engine cleaner is a snake oil. But the question is: do they reccomend not using them because they will see your car more, or because they don't see any good results. It's hard to say.

Well thanks for your reply nontheless COIL!

So, I'm going to drop in a bottle of fuel system cleaner in the tank, and also have planned a fuel filter replacment. My question is, is it preferrable to do the cleaner with the old filter or the new one? does it matteR? thanks for the replies guys.
