Default Depressurizing fuel system

I am trying to depressurize the fuel system on a 87 240DL so, I can replace the fuel filter.I have pulled the fuses indicated as the fuses for the [in tank fuel pump # 4 (8 A)] and, the [main fuel pump #6(16A). However; the vehicle continues to idle for a long time without stalling and I can hear a pump continuing to run for several seconds after the ignition is turned off. Any suggestios on how to relieve the pressure?

turn car off. disconnect battery. put wrenches on fuel filter. place rag over fuel filter and wrenches. loosen fastener and soak up small amout of fuel with rag. that is how i do it anyway. remember that this stuff is fire starter and put your careful hat on.

Agreed. Also remove fuel filler cap from the tank. Sometimes pressure builds up and it's better to vent it.
