Difficult to shift into gear
My daughter has a '91 240 and has recently complained that she is having trouble putting it into gear. It is an automatic and has the shift interlock mechanism that requires the brake to be pressed before allowing to shift out of park.
I am not sure how the interlock mechanism works on this model year and any help in diagnosing what may be failing would be greatly appreciated. Since the car is 3 hours away, it is hard for me to diagnose directly.
Thanks in advance...

chances are the shift lock solenoid is starting to stick.

Thanks for the reply. I read through the post and I gather from it that there is a lever somewhere in the shifter that can be used to manually override the interlock. Can someone out there post a pic that shows where this lever is?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the picture and the instructions. I have forwarded it along to my daughter. I'll have her check the brake lights when it fails and see if they are working. If they aren't, I'll have her check the fuses 7 & 12.
Thanks again for all the help.
