Default engine exchange specs

Hi I inherited a 1990 740 GLE with twin cams and 16 valves. I had the main bearing go out about a year ago. i got a used one from the junkyard. I had someone put it in and didint do it right so I ended up buying new valves and having a valve job done. The car never stsred or did for a minute. The compression is good in all cylinders. I was told that the engine has to be in only one position when putting it back in, to start it does anyone know what the position is? Thanks

They removed the whole engine flywheel and all. They supposedly replaced the bottom end because the main bearing went out. They messed up and bent the valves had someone else do the valve job (including replacing those valves all 16 of them). When they put it in I dont think they had it lined up correctly. I was told in 1990 that they changed the position of the flywheel to get it to work properly. Is there a sensor that is affexted by the wrong position? I was also wondering if replacing the bottom end requires the engine module that went with it or can it run with the cars module and the used bottom end? Thanks for the help.

The flywheel has to be in a special position. Or the car won't run.

Any 16 Valve bottom end will work with the computer you have.

You need to remove the transmission and inspect the flywheel and see if it is off.

Thank you very much. You took a little pressure off. Do you have a picture of the position for the flywheel? Thanks again Can you reccomend a book i can use for a beginner like me that doesnt have all the diagnostic equipment. The car has about 79,000 original miles before the recent new valve job. I am hoping to drive it for awhile. Does any members drive one or like it?

Do you have the tranny out yet?

There is 2 rivets on the flywheel that will need to be on the passenger side of the engine. I still have to find 100%.
Hopefully I can get a pic as well.
