Exhaust Manifold Gasket Replacement
Hey all. I have a 1990 740 Tic Sedan with the AW70/71 automatic. First off I want to say I just turned over 200,000 this past week on the odometer!!! I live in Upstate New York and I have followed this car for 5-6 years now and recently purchased it this past winter for $425! Complete steal in my opinion, said the turbo was going and it eats oil like crazy...Ha. Turbo is fine and boosts strong with no smoke, and it was "eating" oil because it was blowing right out the oil cap gasket. Anyway my question is about my exhaust manifold gaskets. What is the most evasive way to change them? Do I absolutely have to remove the turbo to get the clearance or can I unbolt the manifold and pull it out far enough to slid the new gaskets in? Any and all input is appreciated!!

Congrats on your 200k!!
There is a 24-step procedure outlined in Bentley about removing/installing the exhaust manifold on a 240T. It's probably a good idea to get yourself a Bentley book "240 Service Manual."
It starts out by saying "On turbo engines, the turbocharger bolts directly to the exhaust manifold and they are removed and installed as a unit."
