Since I have my intake manifold off to replace the PCV system, I thought it might be a good idea to gasket match it while it is off. I noticed something weird about it though. At the bottom of the runners, there is some kind of soft flexible material about 1 or 2 inches long. Does anyone know what that is? Can I take it out?

Here is one, its kinda hard to see what I am talking about. I circled the end of it, it goes back like one or two inches. I will see if I can get a better pic.

 

Does anyone have an N/A manifold laying around that they could look at and see if it is the same way?

 

I found out it is part of the variable length intake runner system.
