Default fault code 2-4-1 in 1991 volvo

Hello,

I am trying to understand what I need to fix in my 1991 volvo which has a check engine fault code of 2-4-1.

Does someone have instructions on what I need to check and how to check?

I appreciate your responses.

Thanks in advance.

Hi jagtoes, Thanks for your response. I know it is EGR malfunction (looked up the haynes manual), but I am trying to find instructions on how to fix the issues. WHat should I be troubleshooting? The haynes manual does not do a good job of explaining.

Thank you for your help (in advance).

1st what model is it ? A 240 or a 740 or a 960 , etc?. I would using a vacuum pump verify if the EGR valve holds vacuum. If not then the diaphragm is bad and you would need a new valve. I suspect you know that this is a pricey item. Also check any wiring connections and clean them.

Hi jagtoes,

the model is 1991 volvo 740 Station Wagon (non-Turbo).

would you happen to have illustrated instructions for this?
