Friend found an '84 at pick-a-part. What to salvage?
I just purchased an 85 240 DL with 240,000 on the odo. It runs great, just passed CA smog, everything works in the car and it recently got a radiator flush & new fluids all around, including trans, diff & PS. The only thing that needs attention is the rubber surrounding the center support bearing on the driveshaft. I will be replacing this, along with changing front pads & maybe doing plugs n wires since the insulation is looking wethered.
I just got a call from a friend today who was at the local pick-a-part junkyard and came accross an 84 DL that he says is fairly intact from the motor back (was in front-end collision). I'm gonna leave early from work tomorrow and go salvage some odds and ends: relays, fuses, switches, plastics, etc.
What else should I take that I will likely need in the future? Should I bother with the fuel pump(s) or just buy new when mine fails?

Bring a sack.
I'd Take the ECU, AMM, fuel pump/ system relay, Harness if in good shape, O.D. relay, fan switch, A/C switch, Plug wires if the continuity is ok, interior trim clips, throttle switch, air hose from AMM to throttle body if intact and for sure all lenses, as many bulbs as I could carry, spare headlight and a coil. And idle control valve. And yeah, Id pull the fuel pump and the connector hose and fittings from the pump to the filter. Also any rubber parts what seem new, fuel pressure regulator.
For sure the fuel pump relay and ECU, though.
Hose clamps big and small if they are sturdy and awesome and original equipment.

Thanks for the tips! I'm not sure which Injection/Computer system I have in my '85, but I grabbed the ECU from the '84 anyway since they didn't charge me for electrical stuff. Are the ECU's in the manual trans cars different than the ECU in an automatic?
Heres what I hauled in: Trailer Hitch, trailer light converter thingy, hi pressure fuel pump, regulator, airbox assembly w/maf, ECU, ign. control module, coil, battery & spark plug cables (look brand new), alternator, starter, PS pump, engine brackets & pullies, tail light lenses, interior dome lite, climate control switches, instrument cluster, steering column/turn signal switches, all the relays and fuses, kick panels, interior door plastics & a coffee can full of hardware & clips.
$90 for the haul. Not bad seeing that i was looking at spending over $200 for a new hitch
