Default Gas Gage...

Hey I drive a 1985 240 DL... (possibly a 244 I'm told?)

Anyways the gas gage like to go all wacky. Like it will drop a bit then I turn a corner or accelerate and goes back up. Basically just a lot of fluctuation(sp?) Maybe like half of inch travel on tip of the needle. Anyways anybody know how this can be fixed? Or is it the shape of the tank maybe? Suggestions plz . Thanks.

The contacts may be either dirty or corroded. Some people have cleaned them or just replaced them.
Sorry that was on the sending unit in the tank.

So to clean or replace them the tank has to be removed? And most likely very little gas in the car would be a bonus correct?

There should be an access hole in the trunk so you don't have to drop the tank.

Kk I hope I can find it... I was looking on "All Data" which is like a program for finding our car **** like "ANYTHING" and it gets updated every 3 months (3000 dollars every 3 months though) but anyways I couldn't find how to access it... Just info on it...

Once again thanks Tech

Oh sorry I wasn't being too clear. I just meant the program wasn't telling me how to access the sensor, it was only telling me details about it... like shape size how much it costs to replace... etc. but you answered my question. Thanks
