Okay I told everyone I was going to ask a lot of questions so don't be annoyed! The gas gage works only once and a while on our '88 240 GLE. Any idea how to fix that? We've been using the trip odameter to try to figure out how much gas we have. Does anyone know how much the tank holds? Or what the average gas milage should be?

There might be a problem with the tank unit or wiring at the instrument cluster

 

any idea how difficult it is to check the wiring problem? Is this under the steering wheel in the front or an issue to be addressed some where else?

 

I have seen some problems with the connections on the back of the spedometer cluster assembly.
