Gear shift stuck!

Hello all-
My gear shift in my '93 automatic wagon is stuck. When I start the car and step on the barke, I can't push the button and move the gear shift--the button won't push! Help!!! Am I in for a $$$ transmission job?

Something is wrong in the shiftlock setup most likely.

Remove the cover around and inspect the pieces down by the shifter.
