Good Price?? 87 240 GL
New to this forum and wondering if I got a good deal when I bought this car. 1987 240 GL sedan metalic gold biege with biege tan leather interior.
All service records from an old lady original owner since new to 2006 with 98,000 miles. Second owner selling now at 140,000 miles but replaced broken odometer and shows 175,000. Has all records, original keys windowsticker, brochure manuals etc. No rust on car, new muffler, ac repaired, motor mount and transmission mounts replaced. needs one front ball joint and brake master cylinder ($500). I found behind the drivers seat the floorboard is rusted very bad. almost through the bottom. The garage that has serviced the car can cut it out and weld new metal in for $250. The same garage has worked on the car since 1990. The car is a south forida car. Im paying $1300 for the car is tthis good?

IMO, $1,300 for a car that is in good running condition is not bad. Cars should cost $400 per month to drive. So, it you pay $1,300, and drive the car for 5 months without putting any $$$ in it, you've done good.
Thanks. I guess Im just worried about the rust issue. Does anyone know what could cause the car to rust in this location? Ive heard the AC drain hose? Or the Sunroof draun hose? how and where do you clean hese out?
Well, if the same shop has serviced it since 90, surely they would be aware of any rust issues. The a/c drains are in the drive tunnel about where the bellhousing is. Whatever you do...do NOT use comressed air to clean the lines, you can rupture them. I've gently used a coathanger and removed debris. As for the sunroof, the front drain hose run through the A pillars and drain behind the front wheel wells. The rear drains run through the trunk and you can separate them there and run water down. Typically they clog at the bottom, where the seams of the side metal and underbody join. Look for drains like you have on the doors bottom edges.
Price? What we think doesn't matter...if you're pleased then it's a good deal.
