My mother-in-law is no longer able to drive and the time has come for me to deal with her car; a '92 745 GLA w/ 99.8k on the odo. I got the "745 GLA" from the original dealer receipt. What is a 74"5"? What is a GLA? I'm a car guy and do all the work on our cars.
This car hasn't moved in 3 years. Lived outside in northern NY. Had 3/4 of a tank of gas. I was trying to decide how I was going to drain the gas, free the brakes, clear the air box of mouse nests and who knows what else....
Well, the tires didn't need air, the air filter was clean, I hooked the jumpers up and the car srarted imediately and idled perfectly. I drove it home (2 mi.) and the brakes worked perfectly. Damn!
I have a daughter turning 16 next week. She doesn't like the looks of Grandma's wagon and really had her sights set on my Saab but I think she might have to take a reality check on this one. Seem like a no brainer to me. I'll be working on the car and lurking on this forum to stay advised. Thanks in advance, C.

740 is a the sedan designation AKA 744, 7 is the line, then 4 is for 4 cyl, then the 5 in this case is for a wagon, "5" door, get it? Well, it's confusing but that's the way it is. Then the GL is for Gran Lux, the A is for automatic. O would be for Overdrive IF it was a stick shift. So, this 745GLA is old Volvo speak. Most would call it a "740 wagon"...
