Heat always "on"?
The interior of my1983 240 is always hot, because I cannot turn off the heat!
Even if I slide the temperature control fully to the left, and turn the fan to the off position, I'm getting a slow but steady flow of hot air.
This is fine for Winter days, but not when the weather is hot because I can't get any cool air circulating.
Any thoughts?

The problem is the heater control valve. My '82 244 had the exact same problem. It is located just above and to the right of the drivers left foot behind the plastic pannel. It is kind of a pain in the *** to replace because you have to disconnect the heater hoses form the other side of the firewall so you don't flood the inside with antifreeze. Also there is some kind of weird thermostat device on there that I've never figured out what it's there for. It isn't too hard replace except for that weird thermostat thing.
You can get access by removing the driver's side kick panel. Here are some pics from another site that may help clarify:

Well if its just that the heat is always on then you shouldn't have to mess with the a/c at all. Yes there a lot of federal regulations bull **** you have to deal wiht with the a/c with these cars because they are r12 systems but the heater just works using antifreeze which as far as i know isn't regulated since you can buy it anywhere.
