HELP! new to volvo and has eletrucal problems

My stepsister has had a 90 240DL for a few months now and she was having charging problems. The first odd thing was the battery light would stay on after the car was turned off. IT would not come on with the car running. We tested the alternator and it failed so we replaced it. The next day the waterpump blew out and more odd eletrical problems. I checked the book and it had all the symtems of computer failure I first checked the fuses including the one on the fender. So i went to the yard today and got both he igntion computer and the main computer out of a 90 240 and replaced them. I put a new water pump on the car and tried to start it but the fully charged battery wouldnt turn it over. Heres were it gets really weird. While the ign. was set to on (with the car off) the spedo was hovering around 85 and the trip odo. was ticking off miles. I put a battery charger on it and used the engine start function and it started right up. It ran fine even with the headlights on then i switched the lights off and then turned the blower motor on and the car died. Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe the igntion switch is shorting? I would be greatful for any knowledge.

Gee, a Mercedes guy would probably just take it to the dealer
. But we Volvo people are cheap, cheap, cheap...
But you went to the "yard", junkyard I assume, so you are a Volvo guy deep down who just needs to come around to the light-of course, considering the experience you are having with this 240, well, may be we will lose you forever[
]. Seriously now, it does sound like an ignition switch malfunction AND some short like in the speedo/instrument pod. I hate to be this general but you got a lot of craziness going on there...
