Help please! 740 broke down 100 miles from home!
I believe it is the fuel pump in the gas tank. There are 2 I believe. I bought a replacement one, but I am confused. There is a small door to give access to this in the trunk held by four bolts (it's a 1990 740 turbo). I thought this would be a straight forward job. But in my manual, it states I have to remove the fuel tank and drive shaft! Is this just a matter of disconnected the hoses (after I relieve the pressure), pulling the old pump assembly and replacing it and reconnecting or do I really need to drop the fuel tank?
Please help. Car is in my father in law's garage over 100 miles from home! Fortunately we have the tools to fix it, just need to know how to do so.
Thanks!

First better make sure it is the fuel pump, the one in the trunk... For that you go through the trunk, and get the pump/sending unit out and wire the new pump in, may have to solder it. The secondary pump is under the car by the filter, but even for that you don't need to drop the tank or drive shaft.
