help very rough idle

Default help very rough idle

hello i am new here and very new to volvos i have a 89 740 gl wagen i love it so far but working on it is sort of a pain it doesnt matter how or when i drive it but if i have to stop the idle is all over the place between 200 and 1000 rpm it drives me nuts but it drives fine any body have suggestions on where i should start any help would be great and sorry i hate punction

start with a vacuum leak check the vacuum lines also could be dirty throttle body and it wouldnt hurt to clean the iac

sorry but what is the iac i have checked all my vacum lines and cleaned throttle body new air filter tune up and fuel filter the fuel filter seemed to help alittle but who knows thanks though

The air idle control valve is a device that allows air to bypass the closed throttle plate during idle. It is made by BOSCH, and has two air lines attached to it.

It can be cleaned.

The throttle position switch has to close to open the valve. This all assumes you have the BOSCH LH2.4 system.

How about the flame trap as well? or your timing?

thanks guys it was my fuel pressure regulator i blew out the diaphram so got a new one on order
