Default how to accurately measure transmission fluid

Hello again everyone, i have yet another question.. Does anyone know how to accurately measure the transmission fluid, in a 1992 volvo 940gl????

Well, there is a stick that is for that purpose. Has a 'cold' and 'hot' level, works pretty well.

well yeah i know that.. But isn't there a certain way you can do it to get the most accurate measurement. like does the car need to be running in neutral or should the car just have been run and hot and off to check. And as far as i know it actually does matter if the car is hot or cold to get an accurate measurement. i am pretty sure that the car should be running but i am not sure if you should have it in neutral or something to get the most accurate measurement..


i am well aware of the stick thats for that purpose.........

It should be checked while on level ground while idling in park. I always check mine hot - meaning, I take it out for 10-15 min drive and check it when I come in. You should check the "hot" side of the dipstick for correct readings.

I believe this info should be in the owners manual.
