Improving Performance - Volvo 940
The ol' '93 940 Turbo is finally out of the shop. It's engine's running well, and I'm pleased to say that it's been reliable since. Seeing as how that's taken care of, I was wondering, what can I do to further improve performance? At the moment, I'm reducing the wagon's over-all weight as much as possible by removing excess interior (primarily I'm referring to the vehicle's third row of seats). If there are any further suggestions, they'd be appreciated. Thanks everyone!

IPD turbo camshaft, TME sport turbo exhaust from IPD, up the boost, adjustable cam gear. For the handling you could buy IPD sway bars, lowering springs, and bilsteins if you want to spend some money. Just a few options, there are many more if you check out www.ipdusa.com.

RE: Improving Performance - Volvo 940
As far as weight reduction goes. Remove items from the car below.
- Third row seat
- Rear Seats
- Front passenger seat (Replace with light weight racing seat.)
- Drivers seat (Replace with light weight racing seat or nothing at all.)
- Door panels
- Speakers
- Carpet
- Spare tire and tools
- Buy and install light weight rims
- Have a custom CF and or fiberglass hood made
- Headliner
- Replace all the glass with light weight plexiglass.
Also what kind of performance do you want? Do you want more power (Engine) or do you want more handling (Suspension)?
Engine
- STAGE ZERO (Includes getting a boost gauge) your car. I know you just got it out of the shop but look up what STAGE ZERO is on this forum. Found in the General Volvo section in the PINNED topic of VolvoForum Resources Thread.
- 3" mandrel bent downpipe
- 2.5" mandrel bent catback system with a free flowing muffler like BORLA and or Magnaflow. And or buy one of the premade systems from IPD USA, EuroSportTuning...
- Adjustable Cam Tool (QuickBrickMotorSports)
- Manual Boost Controller (MBC) be sure to have a boost gauge so you know what your boosting once you turn the boost up and don't turn it up too much. 10 PSI should be good.
- If there is an ECU upgrade out there for your car get this over the MBC.
- Turbo upgrade
- Internal upgrades to the engine
- Front Mount Intercooler (FMIC)
- Nitrous (Be careful read up on it and know your stuff before doing this)
Suspension
- IPD sway bars
- Lowerings Springs and or CoilOvers
- Shocks/Struts (KONI or Bilsteins)
- Sway Bar endlinks
- Strut brace of some kind
- Third row seat
- Rear Seats
- Front passenger seat (Replace with light weight racing seat.)
- Drivers seat (Replace with light weight racing seat or nothing at all.)
- Door panels
- Speakers
- Carpet
- Spare tire and tools
- Buy and install light weight rims
- Have a custom CF and or fiberglass hood made
- Headliner
- Replace all the glass with light weight plexiglass.
