hi i just bought a 1990 240 wagon base i was wondering if there is any thing i should know about owning it. common issues ect.

 

pretty much everything here that applies to non-turbo volvo 940's applies to your 240.

being a 1990, you have the Bosch LH2.4 fuel injection system, and its probably an AW70/71 automatic transmission unless you have one of the rare 5-speeds (M47)

 

I have the same car with the m47 . It has 315K on the odometer and still running good.
There is a top 10 list of issues you can google. I think IPD,the Volvo parts place has a top 10 list of problems as well. Mine has had most of the common problems. The heater blower motor replacement is the most difficult/annoying in my opinion.

 

no its a rare 5 speed base trim. i got extremely lucky it got 169xxxx 1 owner besides myself

 

Nice find. I also have a 5 speed wagon. The check the 10 common 240 problems. I would say the three biggest pains are the blower, the heater core and the rear axle bushings. Good luck. You could fit a lot of stuff in the back especially compared to sport utilities and if you are easy on the gas pedal, get 30 mpg.
