swaping to a 16V would require changing a lot more than just the engine... different ECU (engine control unit, the computer that runs the fuel injection), different manifolds, etc.

cheapest place to get a used engine is from a 'pik and pull' kind of junkyard where you yank the parts yourself, or from a private party thats parting out a car, typically one thats been in an accident.

I'm curious why you think you need a whole engine? the 8 valve B230F engines are extremely robust, its rare they need more than a new head due to overheating. was it driven without oil or something?

sadly, yes. I have been having this prob with oil storage and smoking for a while. It cut the timing belt. When I wanted to replace the belt I discovered that the engine has become stiff. Can't I get refurbished motor or something. Can't get to a junk yard. Thanks

yes, a rebuilt motor from a remanufacturer will be pretty expensive, I just googled a few places, you're looking at maybe $2000 for a B230F plus a $500 core fee (you get that back when you ship them your dead engine so they can remanufacture it for the next guy), and $200 shipping (covers the return of the old motor too).
