Default Leaking Oil: Cranks Seal

Hello, I have my old 1993 240 Wagon and it started leaking oil.

They diagnosed it to be the crank seal leaking.
Is this the same as the crankshaft seal?

Any information would be great.

Thanks

yes, or rear main seal. have to take out the tranny to change it. you may want to make sure the crankcase ventilation is not plugged up creating pressure that blew the seal.

there's a crank shaft seal on both ends of the motor, the front one is behind the crank pulleys, while the rear one is between the engine and transmission.

Yes, my front crank seal leak was caused mainly by increased crankcase pressure resulting from PCV system malfunction, not a bad seal. In that situation, you can replace the seal and the leak will continue.
