Volvo 740 GL '88a owner here. When I start the car, often the lightbulb failure light stays on for a while. Before, this went out after a few meters driving (I think at least when hitting around 2000RPM). Lately, it stays on for a little longer, sometimes half a minute. I don't really know what is the reason why it goes out, let alone the reason why it stays on so long.
Any thoughts somebody? All the lights (except the registration plates lights) work.
The bulb failure system only cares about the low beams, the 4 rear parking lights and the brake lights.
Turn lights off, start car, warning light should be off. (if it's possible to turn yours off in your country)
Put the light switch in the middle position - if warning is on - there's a problem with the 4 rear parking lights. Bad connection, mismatched bulbs, different brands can cause that.
Here in Sweden it is possible to turn them of in position 2 but the light stays on, even if I switch the light to every position. (apart from dimming a split second between switching the light switch)
Maybe indeed some bad connection? I'm just puzzled as to why en when it turns off every time in the end when I'm driving...
I had a similar problem during the day with my braking lights. The vibration from driving reconnected the connection and the lights went out, The rear lights are notorious for overheating and melting the mounting plate where they attach. And that causes an on and off connection. I just took them apart and sanded them flat and reinstalled everything and now they work fine.
