Default Looking at a 1983 240 DL Wagon, but...

I'm looking at getting a 240 Wagon and entering the ranks of Volvo ownership.

I have a friend who is selling a 1983 240 Wagon, that has a small problem. The power steering doesn't feel like its working, eventhough she can hear the pump. Is this a common problem, or something that anyone has heard of? Also there's something up with the tailgate, but I'm thinking maybe its just the poorly designed wiring back there.

It has a small amount of rust, a manual transmission and a nice interior (save for a small rip in the drivers seat) but I'd like to know that I'm not going to end up spending thousands of dollars on this car, like I have my BMW.

It is a 50/50 chance the pump or steering rack is bad.

For the tailgate you can buy the wiring harness to replace the one that went bad.
