Default Looking at 740s, Turbo or 16V?

Hey Guys,

I've lurked the forums here for awhile (finally decided to join though) and have a question that will spark a debate.

Now I've owned two different 1992 Volvo 240 sedans. Both were great cars and treated me well. The first one was in a major accident and never behaved the same, and the second one blew it's driveshaft at high speed. The cost in having the car towed home ($900) and doing the repairs aren't worth it for a car I paid $1100 for a few years ago.

ANYWAYS! I've started looking for another car and as much as I like the 850s I can't find a decent one in my area at a decent price. BUT! There seems to be a large number of beautiful 740s, which I also quite like.

So here's the big question, if you had the choice would you get a 1990 740 Turbo or a 1990 740 16V? Both cars have similar mileage, condition ect. and the only difference is turbo or 16V. Obviously there's going to be a variety of opinions and I'd love to hear them all.

Thanks guys in advance!

The 16v is harder to maintain, the belts and associated parts have to be in good order to keep the motor from having issues; it's also an "interference" engine. The Turbo has its issues but overall is a more reliable system. Power is about the same. If you are a DIY type, the 16v is fine if you keep on top of it. I'd drive both and see which one feels better. Hard to believe they are that similar in condition. As far as reliability and economy the regular b230 is best.
