Major transmission question
Ok so i think and hope that my transmission went out. I only hope because i already took it off and have taken 2 other off at the jukyard. I have a 81 244 with the AW or BW 55 automatic transmission. No OD. it started not working good for me a long time ago when i still drove it. Lately i decided to finally fix it. So what it was doing was it wouldnt stay in any gear accept 1st. It used to just stay in first till it got warmed up then it would shift fine. This all started after I learned that if I reved my engine in nuetral and then quickly shifted into drive it would peel out. I was young and stupid i know. I was 16 it was my first car. so it started doing that and eventually would only stay in first and only if the shifter was in 1st . If i had it in drive and put on the brake it wouldnt be in gear when i got on the gas again. I was told before to check the kickdown cable and it seemed to be in working order. So here's my dilemma now. Did I ruin my transmission or could it be the torque converter? I have 2 other transmissions sitting around, will they work? 1 is a aw70 with OD from an 82, the other is a BW35 no OD from a 78. the aw70 is longer so i would need the drive shaft that goes with it. I dont know if the bw35 is a different length or what the differences are with it and the 55 at all. I wouldnt mind having OD but what would it take? Could I just run the wire from the tranny to the battery with an inline fuse and toggle switch? What about the relay? So these are my questions. I hope you can answer them soon as i would like to be driving this wonderful car with a couple weeks.
not sure about all if and or buts regarding this but research what went to what with at year and model. then get the transmission. you should be able to get a drive shaft from the junkyard. i don't know personally. universal joints, center bearing, transmission bushing, all necessary parts for the assembly.
