minor transmission issues on my 240DL
well...almost like new.
the car ran fine for a couple days but now it seems to be leaking from the solenoid. so maybe I didn't get the bolts tight enough? and the trans is shifting crazy...not shifting between 1st & 2nd, very soft shifting, etc. so I'm going to try to get under there and tighten the bolts more (it was hard to get a wrench up there) to see if that would fix it. if not, the trans might be going out. I found a used 940 trans for $250 at a yard, but I'm not sure how to tell it's an aw70 for sure. this is the car: for parts 94 volvo 940 remains
I called, and they didn't know which trans for sure...any way to tell exactly if this will work in my 240 if tightening the bolts doesn't work?

the only one that would be significantly different would be the AW72L used on the 16valve DOHC models of the 740/940, those have much lower gear ratios, as the 16V was a higher RPM motor.
a transmission from a LH2.2 car (pre-1989) would need its flexiplate swapped to use with a LH2.4 car (1989+) but the other way around shouldn't matter. in this case, both cars are probably LH2.4

if your car is a LH2.4 and the donor car is LH2.2, you'll need to be sure to swap the flexiplate as LH2.4 uses a 'crankshaft posiition sensor' which reads notches on the flexiplate, the older ones didn't have this.
