Default My bad experience.....and a 240 question.

I just drove 370 miles round trip to get what I thought was a descent older Volvo 740 SW but the owners conveniently forgot to mention that Valdes oil slick lived under the car.... This thing had a bad oil leak that looked to come from under the main pulley....probably a seal but I also saw antifreeze dripping from under the front edge of the head too.....I passed even though the price was now down to 500 bucks from 1100....It ran like total crap under load....it just hesitated badly.....it has a turbo. Good thing I rented a trailer for 50 clams and spent 75 in gas to see that pos....

Anyway, the hunt goes on for a half descent wagon....I just want a simple work wagon I can throw my stuff in and go forty or so miles to fish/camp and to work three miles away.....nothing more. I'd like to spend no more than a grand...am I asking for nothing but junk at that price?

Back on craigslist I see an older 86-90 240 wagon looks to be in good shape but the owners say its missing in one cylinder? I'm pretty handy with mechanics but its either a bad plug/spark or a bad injector? Any thoughts? I haven't actually seen or heard this one....

Let me know what your thoughts would be on that.

Thanks...

You have to be prepared to do some work on these cars as many are neglected but not beyond saving. I worry more more about cosmetics which are harder to fix than the motor... A grand should get you a decent running RWD Volvo in most areas.
