Just got a frantic call from my daughter. Stella, her 1990 240 automatic is stuck in drive.......shifter won't move. Seem to remember there is an over-ride, but I can't for the life of me remember where it is or how to activate it....any thoughts?

 

Volvo has a concealed mechanical release lever located right by the text on your shifter that says SHIFT LOCK RELEASE. You can reach in with your finger just past the brushes of the shift path and push the lever to the left to release/disengage the shift lock.Also there maybe something foreign blocking the shift mechanism,coin,ink pen etc.
