Sell the 240 to someone who can appreciate it, and buy something faster.

buy your buds wrecked camaro 302 or mustang 4.6, and transplant their motor.

if you leadfoot it, be prepared to replace the automatic transmission before long and eventually the rear end too. if its got a 5-speed stick shift, don't even think about it, it won't survive 150HP, never mind 250HP+

oddly enough our dead stock 240 will cruise at 80-90MPH all day long. long as you're heavy-footed, it will accelerate plenty fast enough to get you around. its fine to wind out 2nd gear on the slushbox til you get up to speed, the motor won't explode if you redline it.

rims over 15" will ruin the ride. ditto any significant suspension drop. there's nothing wrong with the 240's brakes that a new set of rotors and OEM pads can't fix. a beefier antisway bar up front can reduce body roll on hard cornering, new stock rubber suspension bushings front and rear and boge/sachs progas shocks will greatly improve the ride of a tired 240. pretty much any aftermarket shock 'upgrade' will harsh the ride, unless matched with stiffer springs which will, oh yeah, harsh the ride. modern ghetto styled wheels will just look dorky on a 240.

the B230F motor's hallmark is reliability and durability. pretty much anything you do to extract more power out of it will compromise that, and probably get you lousy gas mileage too. if you want to see how to do it right, see the sticky thread on restoring a 242GT in this forum, where swift is using a 1995 B230FT (turbo) motor thats heavily tweaked as his baseline, that will likely be a 250HP car when finished. it will also cost many $1000s.

lots of options. I just bought the engine out of a 940 turbo and am going to transplant it. total for engine an small parts was $650. this will bump it from 100 to 160 hp. and theres much more than can still be done.

if you dont want to go this far, you can buy the aftermarket cams availble. IPD has one that will get you up to 130 hp, normally aspirated.

Its not uncommon to get 200 hp out of these blocks, and 300 hp isnt unrealistic.

beefier sway bars are definitely a good idea. lowering springs (just like what came on stock 240 turbos) really help. billstein shocks.

so many options.

stock HP on a LH2.2/2.4 B230F was 114 hp at 5400 rpm, 136 ft. Ibs. at 2750 rpm

the 740/940 turbos were 162 hp at 4800 rpm, 195 ft. lbs. at 3450 rpm

if you do transplant a turbo engine, get the AW71 transmission that came with it, its a heavier duty version, the 240 probably has a AW70. you'll need the intercooler, all the intake plumbing and airbox, all the engine compartment wiring harness. exhaust pipes down to and including the cat. you'll need the ECU and ICU which are behind the glovebox and the harness to them. 240 and 740/940 dashboard wiring harnesses are *WAY* different, the 740/940 has a central fuse+relay panel in the center console just forward of the shifter, behind the ashtray, whereas 240's had relays scattered all over and the fuses near the driver door.

His car is a "Classic" 1993. The wiring is not "way different" you just swap the ECU and get different fuel injectors.

You're being a buzzkill. I'm going back to turbobricks.com

ah, I never saw the year... and didn't make the connection of what the #61 of 6100 meant. I've never been under the dash of one of those... most of the 240s I see are 80s models, with LH2.2

will the 940 intercooler fit against the 240 radiator? I know 7/9 radiators switched to a larger one between -91 and 92- concurrent with switching from mechanical to electric fans.

you need longer radiator straps to allow for the intercooler. Swap the ECu from the 940 and move the distributor from rear to front.

it can be done for under $1,000. You end up with a 940 turbo, ready to rip.
