My mystery red wires.......
Accidentally started this thread in the 6\0 series forum..
Anyway, Im going through a 940 for the wife and came across these 2 red mystery wires that come out of the harness by the battery, not sure if the 2-1 splice is original, but I figure they musta been hooked to the hot on the battery at some point.
Anyone got any idea what they are for? everything seems like it works, but I noticed the ABS bulb was missing from the instrument cluster, so i'm guessing that they may have something to do with the ABS??

Thanks bro! They did a damn nice job running em down the headlight conduit!
now I just gotta figure out where they terminate so I can dump some bump in the old lady's wagon..
....And confirmed the ABS ain't working as I braked it into a low speed drift on my post jack stand beer run trying to get the ABS to kick in...

unless you're running 1000 watts of amplifiers or something, I'd just pull the stereo power off the 'positive terminal' located on the firewall behind the left side dashboard (US drivers side). this is a slim black box that has a dozen or so red wires, 2 of which come directly from the battery. its always powered, so anything you hook up to it should be fused as close to the positive terminal as practical.
btw, best/safest way to test ABS is in a straight line on a wide flat road (with noone behind you, of course!)... slam them brakes as hard as you can from a reasonable speed, if your ABS is working, the pedal will pulse, if not, your wheels will lock and you'll skid. 2/7/9's slide quite predictably as long as the surface is even, you should have plenty of time to let off on the brakes and regain control.

when you turn the ignition on without starting the car, does the red ABS light come on, and does it go out when the car is started? thats the electronics self-test.
this car *does* have an ABS module under the hood right? probably behind hte left headlight.... its way obvious.
those two disconnected red wires might NOT be add-ons, they could well be factory wires which were spliced together and should be connected to the battery, there's often 3-4 red wires plus the big heavy red starter cable on the battery + lead, and one of those could be the ABS actuator high current power....

so what year is this 940 ?
there /is/ a fairly heavy gauge wire directly off the battery plus that goes to the ABS 'surge protector', which has its own 10a fuse. This surge protector is clipped to the frame that holds the ABS controller buried under the left side of the dashboard (been so long since i've been down there that I can't tell you exactly where to find it, the green book and VADIS are vague on this detail). the surge protector looks something like a relay but with a blade fuse stuck into the side of the top

It's a 94' I was out fishing over the holiday and had to fix the transmission on my truck this evening so I haven't had a chance to look at it, but I got some more parts in the mail today and should get a look at it tomorrow when I'm doing the VC and distributor gaskets. I'll let you know as soon as I figure out where they go..
