Hello, this is at the back of a B230FK engine on a 1995 940 built in Sweden. This part which has red arrows pointing to it is next to the dipstick for the transmission oil. It is connected to a hose, and appears to have some kind of valve attached to it. Would you happen to know what this part is, and what it does?
Heater control valve - the plastic gets brittle and they snap in half causing quick loss of all the coolant then the car overheats and damages your head gasket. You don't have to have one if you live in a cold climate. It only turns off (with vacuum) when in recirc mode I believe or when requested ac temp is maximum cold. It's open all other times and the blend door controls the air temp mixing fresh or cooled air with heated air.
Grab it and see if it breaks apart - you want it to break in your driveway - not while driving.

Sounds like an added risk. I can remove it, if I don't mind not having recirculation mode, or having the ac temp to max. I read they may be compatible with metal AC Delco/GM part. I'll disassemble and examine what shape it is in.
Be careful dont just go grabbing it and twisting it unless you have another one on deck!!!
It could break at any moment.
i have many available including all metal ones my friend.

Hi Goldenblock!
I gather from hoonk that if I break it, I can simply close off the hose and remove it. I just won't have Maximum Cold, or Recirculated Heating. Sounds like it would be best to pre-emptive replace this with a all-metal part.
I'm in Switzerland/Germany. Do you ship to Europe? It would be great to find a reliable source for parts. Cheers
Yeah your far away. The standard Oem ones you have last awhile. The all metal ones i have available i will send you a private message regarding cost and possible shipping. But any good one will work.
i have about 30 available for sale.

The heater valve is attached on both ends to a heater hose. That hose new is actually one piece that has marks on it where to cut to insert the valve. Cheapest thing is just put a new hose (or both new heater hoses when you are there) and leave the valve off.
