Name The Part
I have a 1992 volvo 740 wagon and I believe the mounting bracket to what I think is the sway bar in the rear has broken off. Can someone please inform me what #8 is in this diagram: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...w=1397&bih=698 Any Suggestions would be appreciated, THANKS
Panhard rod. It's not a "sway bar" since it does not control roll movement of the vehicle. It keeps the rear end tracking in-line with the car. Some times is is also called a track rod. If the bracket has broken off, you may need it welded back in place, and that must be done precisely to make sure that the car tracks correctly. If bolts have sheared, buy new ones and replace. It should be pretty obvious what to do if you have a good look. Post a pic too.
Here is a picture where the panhard rod is on the bottom left and it is supposed to be where the silver dot is, I am hoping it is just a bolt or connecting piece that broke and I can replace. Thanks
You're in luck. That's a removable albeit broke bolt. Will probably need to drill it and use an EZ Out to remove it. I have a couple of 740 complete rear ends at the shop; if you have no luck locating the bolt locally or Volvo wants $50 let me know and I'll mail you one.
It looks like a pin was attached the frame and the panhard rod slid onto that with the bushings and then a bold held it down. Does anyone know how the panhard rod is supposed to attach to the frame on the rear passengers side on a 1992 volvo 740? Thanks

Swiftjustice44 said exactly what you need to do. I you are clueless as to what to do with an EZ out, have a shop do it. If you go the EZ out route don't forget a penetrating oil.
Here's a picture of my car, just for something to look at.
