Default Need help broken timing belt

Car is a 86 Volvo 240 DL 2.3

was driving home the other day and car stoped. After cranking I could tell it was the timing belt had broke ..... took the old belt off and it had lost its teeth. Now after changing the belt car starts but has no power ... it kinda sputters .. I turned the distributor and it stats to rev but then stalls out

I have gone back over the timing marks and all seems fine

I could not find the mark for the intermediate shaft but I made sure it was pointing at number one plug wire ....... I saw in the manual where the mark is - but mine is no longer there ..... but as I said when the belt was put on cam was on the mark and the crank was on the mark and the intermediate shaft was placed with number one on the cap .

I did notice I had fuel in the Pressure regulator hose .... could this now be the trouble with no power and sputtering?

240nc I'm no expert but everything I ahve seen states that fuel in the vac hose on regulator means the diaphram has a whole in it and is bad. Hope this helps, if I run across anything on brickboard trying to resolve my problem will post back.

Maybe when my belt let go and it had a backfire it poped the diaphram and now with the belt replaced it is keeping it from running. I came across the fuel pressure regulator hose with fuel in it just poking around wondering why I had no power .... it will start but sputters and no power ....

I was looking on brickboard and if reg. is bad you can have bad/no iddle--no power. have you tried palling the vac hose and turning the key to the second possition and see if you get fuel coming out of reg.? When you put new belt on was #1 at top dead center?

Yes there is fuel coming out of the regulator

Yes the engine was at TDC and Cam gear on the mark .... I turned the intermediate shaft till it pointed at number one plug wire on the cap because I can no longer the that mark on the side.

I ordered the regulator for tomorrow I just cant figure why it might be causing the trouble when all I did was replace a broke timimg belt ..... maybe all will be fine after I put the regulator on.

240nc just to be safe check your oil, make sure you did not get excess gas in your crankcase. Maybe overkill but I read it can happen.

I drove around for a yr with a bad FPR, it ran like crap too.
Mine wasn't a huge leak, just a drip,
yours might be flooding the intake manifold.
Andyours might have been bad for a while.

Ok - FPR installed and the old 240 started right up like normal. Now I dont have a timing light what would be the best way to set it to ear .... I know it needs a little advance after installing the new belt.

Buy a cheapo timing light, it comes in very handy for quick diagnosing problems.
I paid less than $20 at pepboys.
