Default New to forum-have 740 rear axle questions

I just bought a 1991 740 turbo with 54,000 miles which sat for years never driven. Rear axle outer bearings on both sides must be dry because they are howling. Question - can I pull axles out to replace bearings and seals without opening differential, no c clips in a Volvo diff?. Thanks for any tips

The axles are held in with the 4 bolt plate behind the emergency brake shoes. Remove caliper, disc, emergency brake shoes, those 4 bolts and the axle pulls out.
