1990 240 GL. Radio issue. Have code, but can’t reset.

This is my first time posting.
I had a 240 DL and it was the best car I’ve ever had. I just bought a 240 GL, which I like even more!
I would like to use the original radio, which is still in the car. I found the security code—a previous owner wrote it in a booklet. Radio just reads “code.” Not “eee code.” But when I enter the code nothing happens. Should I try to reset it?
I guess my other option is to replace the radio. Does anyone have any recs for what to replace it with?
I think this thread already exists, but I couldn’t find it once I joined the forum. Apologies. If someone can direct me to it, I’ll delete this.
Thanks much!
Best.

It’s so unresponsive that maybe it’s just toast. It doesn’t do anything when I enter the code. Just reads “codE” all day long.
