Default new radio question

I have just spent $1700 on repairs to a 1989 240 dl. I thought I read some where that replacing original radio with new radio\cd player can damage the computer. Has any one ever had any problem or heard of this before. My machanic doesn't think it should bve a problem, but I don't want to risk messing up the new computor I had installed. Thanks for any advice. Jim

I don't know of any way that a new radio could hurt your computer.

You are quite safe as far as that radio/computer swap... Some new cars, like VWs have some problems if not done correctly, the change sets off the CEL but, hey, that's why we have old Volvos, right?
