I am looking to get back into the Volvo scene. I am hopefully buying a 1979 242 that has been sitting for about 10 years indoors. It supposedly was a running driving car but now has no spark. What should I look for as far as symptoms and any trouble spots with this particular model? Thanks for your time and knowledge.

 

The '79 model year has the k-jetronic fuel injection system. It's hard to find people with expertise on that system as Volvo stopped using it in the early '80s. You might want to check out this web site: K-Jet.org It has all kinds of good info for the k-jet powered 240s. More importantly it has PDFs of Volvo greenbooks - the repair manuals published by Volvo. Check out the site and see if they have a greenbook for your model year that would help you troubleshoot your ignition problem.
