No rear defrost after overdrive bypass

My overdrive solenoid was sticky so I had my repair shop remove the solenoid and install a bypass plate this summer. Now that the weather is turning a bit chilly, I tried to use my rear window defrost but it does not heat. The spring-loaded dash switch for the rear defrost, which illuminates when the defroster is on, does not illuminate. I see that the overdrive and the rear defrost are the only items on one fuse. I have verified that the fuse is intact and that there is power across the fuse. When I engage the gear-selector overdrive lockout switch, the dashboard arrow illuminates. All other functions at the rear door work (rear wiper, rear washer, and all lights).
What should I do next?
