Oil Filter Finally Removed

there's two kinds of tools (I own both) - one is a end cap tool that works best on filters with cornered edges on the end (perfect for newer Volvos which use filter inserts). The second tool is a band strap that wraps around the filter. this one works on any car but can be tedious on models like the 240 where there is limited clearance - you will need to flip to the correct side so it tightens as you wrench and may need to grab the band to spin it to start the tightening process then move that little bit at a time to get the filter to loosen. The key really is to not overtighten the filter on the reinstall and to put some fresh oil on the threads and the rubber gasket. A firm hand tighten should be good enough to stop any leaks and to allow for an easy removal on the next change. You can also look for filters with the cornered edges that work with the end cap tool as well. Check IPD or FCP's web site for some pics and ideas.
