Default oil leak. 89 245 manual.

Anyone have a good algorithm for leaking oil? The last 2 weeks I've noticed more than usual oil accumulating under the Volvo after parking it. Haven't looked at anything yet, but wondering what I SHOULD look at. I figure the flame trap and all the hoses that run to and from it could be looked at. Anything else?

Then I'm going to see where it is leaking from. Here's my main question, what seals do I NOT want to have to replace? What seals are going to be very hard to replace myself vs what seals are readily accessible and easily replaceable? I did replace the 3 font engine seals when I did the timing belt less than a year ago. And in case anyone is especially good at diagnosing, the leak seems to be coming from the right side of the engine compartment (at least the spot that shows up seems to be more right sided/passenger side)

Anything else that could cause a sudden increase in oil leakage?

Thanks all

I would assume that it is engine oil you are leaking as you have an manual transmission. Automatics tend to get leaks in the lines that run up to the radiator. I would first look at the oil filter. My '90 240 collapsed a motor mount and crushed the oil filter and it started to leak.

Really though, diagnosis requires a look underneath.

Ditto...take a good look at the filter. Sad engine mounts will knock it loose as well as eventually crush it and/or hole it.

just changed the oil/filter last week. Filter was in great shape and the mounts look like they are holding well for the moment. While I was under the car, I started looking for the leak and it looks like it comes from the rear of the engine. I'll have to take a closer look soon, but I did notice that the leak has been worse since i changed the oil. I may have added a little more than I usually do, the oil is RIGHT at the top fill hole on the dipstick.

don't know if that changes anything. If i ever get a warm day and some free time I'll get back under and check things out again.

Also, let's just pretend that the Rear-main seal is bad, how difficult a job is it to remove a manual transmission from the 240 to get to that seal? Maybe I should wait and find out what's wrong first before researching the RMS too much though.???
